Overcoming Anxiety During The Covid-19 Using Five-Finger Hypnotic Therapy -

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by coronavirus 2 Acute respiratory syndrome (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or SARS-CoV-2). This Virus can be transmitted from human to human and has spread widely and raises anxiety in all people. Peoples anxiety toward Covid-19 should be promptly addressed if unresolved will be poorly engaged. Anxiety towards Covid-19 is higher than the person in general who can lower the quality of life. Anxiety handlers use five-finger hypnotic therapy. Because of the five-finger hypnotic therapy is a process that uses the power of the mind by directing the body to heal self-nourishes health/relaxation through communication in the body involving all visual senses, touch, guidelines, vision, and hearing. The study aims to determine the effect of five-finger hypnotic therapy on anxiety levels in people with Covid-19 mentoring (ODP) at Sari Mutiara Hospital. The research design of the Quasy experiment one group pre-post test. The number of samples used as many as 31 people were selected with the purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the level of anxiety before the five-finger hypnotic therapy was largely in the medium category of 15 people (48.4%) At a severe anxiety level as much as 14 people (45.2%) And at a mild anxiety level as much as 2 people (6.5%). After the five-finger, hypnotic therapy showed that there was a decrease in the number of severe anxiety levels of 2 people (6.5%) Mild anxiety Level 11 people (35.5%) The anxiety level was 18 people (58.1%). The results of this study at Wilcoxons statistical test were to get the result of Z = -3,162 and P-value of 0.002 (P < 0.05), there was a significant effect of five-finger hypnotic therapy on the anxiety level of people with Covid-19 (ODP) mentoring.

Genomic epidemiology of COVID-19 in care homes in the East of England -

COVID-19 poses a major challenge to care homes, as SARS-CoV-2 is readily transmitted and causes disproportionately severe disease in older people. Here, we report on 6,600 COVID-19 cases from the East of England, 1,167 of which were identified as residents from 337 care homes. Older age and being a care home resident were associated with increased mortality. SARS-CoV-2 genomes were available for 700 residents from 292 care homes. By integrating genomic and temporal data we defined 409 viral clusters within the 292 homes, indicating two different patterns - outbreaks among care home residents and independent introductions with limited onward transmission. Approximately 70% of residents in the genomic analysis were admitted to hospital during the study period, providing extensive opportunities for transmission between care homes and hospitals. Limiting viral transmission between care home residents should be a key target for infection control to reduce COVID-19 mortality in this population.

Socioeconomic Vulnerabilities and the Intensity of RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 Testing Efforts in the Public Health System in Sao Paulo State -

Introduction The testing of infected persons with SARS-CoV-2 is one of the cornerstones to deploy pandemic control strategies. The public diagnostic effort is particularly important among the most vulnerable socioeconomic districts, such as Sao Paulo state, the Brazilian epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We developed an RT-PCR testing intensity effort index (RT-PCR TIEI) composed of seven indicators to assess the intensity testing efforts in the state of Sao Paulo. We used dynamic time-series cross-sectional models to analyze the association between the RT-PCR TIEI in Sao Paulo state, the proportion of the population living under a high socioeconomic vulnerability level, dependent on public health service (SUS), per capita income, and population density. Results On average, the RT-PCR TIEI score was 23.50. The maximum (47.06) was reached in week 11 and declined in subsequent weeks. The lowest score (17.65) was reached in week 25. In the long-run, the RT-PCR TIEI is negatively associated with socioeconomic vulnerability (p-value=0.000, 95% CI -0.896, -0.816), with a higher proportion of the population dependent on SUS (p-value= 0.000, 95% CI -0.877, 0.808) and with population density (p-value=0.000, 95% CI -0.857; -0.806). Conclusion There was a decline in the state9s testing intensity as the pandemic advanced, and the most socioeconomic vulnerable RHDs showed the lowest values where local public laboratory presence is a predictor of a higher RT-PCR TIEI score. Thus, the low testing RT-PCR effort and local laboratory inequality affect surveillance capability, especially for the most socioeconomic vulnerable population.

Efficacy of face masks, neck gaiters and face shields for reducing the expulsion of simulated cough-generated aerosols -

Face masks are recommended to reduce community transmission of SARS-CoV-2. One of the primary benefits of face masks and other coverings is as source control devices to reduce the expulsion of respiratory aerosols during coughing, breathing, and speaking. Face shields and neck gaiters have been proposed as an alternative to face masks, but information about face shields and neck gaiters as source control devices is limited. We used a cough aerosol simulator with a pliable skin headform to propel small aerosol particles (0 to 7 μm) into different face coverings. An N95 respirator blocked 99% of the cough aerosol, a medical grade procedure mask blocked 59%, a 3-ply cotton cloth face mask blocked 51%, and a polyester neck gaiter blocked 47% as a single layer and 60% when folded into a double layer. In contrast, the face shield blocked 2% of the cough aerosol. Our results suggest that face masks and neck gaiters are preferable to face shields as source control devices for cough aerosols.

COVID-19 Aerosolized Viral Loads, Environment, Ventilation, Masks, Exposure Time, Severity, And Immune Response: A Pragmatic Guide Of Estimates -

It can be shown that over 94% of COVID-19 superspreading events occurred in limited ventilation areas suggesting that aerosolized transmission is a dominant contributor to COVID-19 infections. This study helps answer the questions “How long may a person safely remain within various environments” and “What exposure levels could result in immunity without becoming ill via asymptomatic graduated inoculation”. Understanding how COVID-19 infection likelihood, symptom severity, and immune response correlate to aerosolized viral load concentration exposure levels and time durations could enable optimized Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPI) that reduce severe case counts and improve at-large epidemiologic responses. The model herein estimates the relationships between aerosolized viral load concentrations present in a given environment containing infected persons, the exposure time duration, ventilation, mask usage, exercise / activity level, and likelihood of infection, severity level, and immune response. This study references peer reviewed and published studies and uses them as data sources. Measured aerosolized viral load concentration data from a hospital environment is used to estimate exposure time durations associated with exposures at multiple viral load levels, within multiple indoor ventilation and outdoor environment scenarios, with the exposed subject respirating at both light activity and heavy exercise liter-per-minute volumes, and without and without wearing surgical masks. Information from ASHRAE Office Ventilation standards and an Outdoor Air Exchange model are a part of the model. This estimated total viral load accumulated within specific exposure time durations in the various environmental scenarios is then interpreted using human challenge viral load escalation data into severity categories including Not Ill, Minor Illness, Clinical Mild Illness, and Possible Severe Illness. Immune response data related to these categories is also provided along with discussion related to asymptomatic infection, graduated inoculation, and immunity. When appropriately interpreted for individualized applications, the estimates herein could contribute to guidance for those at low-risk for a severe case that have no obvious COVID-19 co-morbidities, with the understanding that those at higher risk should seek to avoid all exposure risk. The estimates herein may help efforts to strike a balance in developing holistic epidemiologic interventions that consider the effects of these interventions on economic, civic, social, and mental health, which have pathologies within their own realms.

Modelling The Spread of COVID-19 Using The Fundamental Principles of Fluid Dynamics -

The increasing number of positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 worldwide led to a catastrophic breakdown in the global economy and unprecedented social disruptions. These measures have significantly impacted the world9s economy and in many cases has led to the loss of livelihood. Mathematical modeling of pandemics is of critical importance to understand the unfolding of transmission events and to formulate appropriate control measures. In this article, we introduce a physics based approach for forecasting epidemics such as COVID-19. The proposed physics-based mathematical model stems from the fundamental principles of fluid dynamics, and can be utilized to make projections of the number of infected people at any scale. Our model takes into account the diffusive transmission of the virus, the growth of virus inside the human body and the response of the natural immune system of individuals. We demonstrate that the health of individuals plays a critical role in controlling the evolution of the epidemic. In places where the individuals exhibit a strong immune system, the development of pandemic is limited despite high diffusivity of the virus. Overall, the proposed mathematical model can be beneficial for predicting and designing potential strategies to mitigate the spread and impact of pandemics.

Loneliness during strict lockdown: trajectories and predictors during the COVID-19 pandemic in 38,217 adults in the UK -

Rationale: There are increasing worries that lockdowns and stay-at-home orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic could lead to a rise in loneliness, which is recognised as a major public health concern. But profiles of loneliness during the pandemic and risk factors remain unclear. Objective: The current study aimed to examine if and how loneliness levels changed during the strict lockdown and to explore the clustering of loneliness growth trajectories. Methods: Data from 38,217 UK adults in the UCL COVID -19 Social Study (a panel study collecting data weekly during the pandemic) were analysed during the strict lockdown period in the UK (23/03/2020-10/05/2020). The sample was well-stratified and weighted to population proportions of gender, age, ethnicity, education and geographical location. Growth mixture modelling was used to identify the latent classes of loneliness growth trajectories and their predictors. Results: Analyses revealed four classes, with the baseline loneliness level ranging from low to high. In the first a few weeks of lockdown, loneliness levels increased in the highest loneliness group, decreased in the lowest loneliness group, and stayed relatively constant in the middle two groups. Younger adults (OR=2.17-6.81), women (OR=1.59), people with low income (OR=1.3), the economically inactive (OR=1.3-2.04) and people with mental health conditions (OR=5.32) were more likely to be in highest loneliness class relative to the lowest. Further, living with others or in a rural area, and having more close friends or greater social support were protective.

Rational Curiosity and Information-Seeking in the COVID-19 Pandemic -

Curiosity is a powerful determinant of behavior. The past decade has seen a surge of scientific research on curiosity, an endeavor recently imbibed with urgency by the WHO, which set managing information-seeking as a public health goal during pandemics. And yet, a fundamental aspect of curiosity has remained unresolved: its relationship to utility. Is curiosity a drive towards information simply for the sake of obtaining that information, or is it a rational drive towards optimal learning? We leveraged peoples curiosity about COVID-19 to study information-seeking and learning in a large sample (n=5376) during the spring of 2020. Our findings reveal that curiosity is goal-rational in that it maximizes the personal utility of learning. Personal utility, unlike normative economic utility, is contingent on a persons motivational state. On the basis of these findings, we explain information-seeking during the pandemic with a rational theoretical framework for curiosity.

A RECURRENT QUESTION FROM A PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN: HOW SHOULD I TREAT MY COVID-19 PATIENTS AT HOME? -

Rationale and Objectives How should I treat my patients with initial symptoms of COVID-19 at home? This is a recurrent question we have received from many primary care physicians, particularly in less fortunate parts of the world. Given the rising global death toll associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, in the past few months we have witnessed a race to find drugs/biologic treatments to save the lives of hospitalised, severely ill patients, as well as to develop vaccines. To this end, randomised clinical trials are underway to test experimental drug candidates or repurposed medicines. Therapeutic approaches to the early phase of COVID-19 are also being debated, and here, too, there is an emphasis on the need for randomised clinical trials. We agree that rigorous clinical trials are needed. However, there are times, like the present, when patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection are dying at home, and solutions are needed immediately, so we do not have the time to wait for robust results of trials that will take, at best, several months, or possibly up to 1 or 2 years. Thus, it is crucial to provide recommendations to primary care physicians, especially those practicing in resource-poor settings, on treating patients at home during the early phase of COVID-19 when they have mild initial symptoms. Key recommendations We have prepared recommendations for treatment focused on a combination of two drug classes (NSAIDs and corticosteroids) that target the most common symptoms, and prophylactic therapy (low-molecular-weight heparin) and oxygen therapy when needed. These are based on the pathophysiological and pharmacological rationale and the available clinical evidence of efficacy in COVID-19 patients, including results of published randomized clinical trials, for each of our recommended class of drugs. Conclusion These recommendations may be even more helpful to primary care physicians in resource-poor-settings in Latin America and Africa.

Place attachment and acceptance of smart city technologies -

Recent studies on smart cities have emphasised that smart solution initiatives should take into account citizens different needs and concerns. The main aim of this paper is to examine the role of different types of place attachment emotional bonds that residents have with their city in predicting the acceptance of future smart city technologies. In our study conducted among residents of multiple cities in Poland (N = 627), we found that while active place attachment (i.e. conscious identification with a place) predicted more favourable attitudes towards enabling technologies, traditional (natural and unintentional) place attachment was positively associated with acceptance of surveillance technologies regarding everyday monitoring and anti Covid-19 measures. We also found that the relationship between place attachment and acceptance of future technologies is partially mediated by the use of existing smart city technologies. The implications for city governments and planners are discussed.

Association of coping strategies with mental health trajectories during the first twenty-one weeks of COVID-19 lockdown -

The negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health is well evidenced. However, there is little research on how individuals coping strategies during the pandemic were related to changes in mental health over time. The current study used data from the COVID-19 Social Study (N=26,505) to explore whether particular coping strategies (problem-focused, emotion-focused, avoidant, and supportive) were associated with (i) better mental health as lockdown was introduced, and (ii) faster recovery from symptoms across 21 weeks. People with greater use of problem-focused, avoidant, and supportive coping displayed more mental health symptoms, while greater use of emotion-focused coping was associated with fewer mental health symptoms. Symptoms decreased over time for all coping strategies, but only supportive coping was associated with a faster decrease in anxiety and depressive symptoms, indicating a potential protective effect of social support on psychological distress.

Lockdown Lives: A longitudinal study of inter-relationships amongst feelings of loneliness, social contacts and solidarity during the COVID-19 lockdown in early 2020. -

In this work, we study how social contacts and feelings of solidarity shape experiences of loneliness during the COVID-19 lockdown in early 2020. We draw on cross-national data, collected across four time points between mid-March until early May 2020. We situate our work within the public debate on these issues and discuss to what extent the public understanding of the impact of lockdown is borne out in the data. Results show, first, that although online contacts are beneficial in combating feelings of loneliness, people who feel more lonely are less likely to make use of this strategy. Second, online contacts do not function as a substitute to face-to-face contacts - in fact, more frequent online contacts in earlier weeks predicted an increase in face-to-face contacts in later weeks. Finally, solidarity played only a small role in shaping peoples feelings of loneliness during lockdown. In sum, our findings suggest that we must look beyond the current focus on online contact and solidarity, if we want to help people address their feelings of loneliness. We hope that this work will be instrumental not only in understanding the impact of the lockdown in early 2020, but also in preparing for possible future lockdown periods.

THE SOONER THE BETTER? ANXIETY AND DELIBERATE EXPOSURE TO COVID-19 RISK AMONG YOUNG ADULTS IN FRANCE -

The COVID-19 outbreak has generated significant uncertainty about the future, especially for young adults. Health and economic threats, as well as more diffuse concerns about the consequences of COVID-19, can trigger feelings of anxiety, leading individuals to adopt uncertainty-reducing behaviours. We tested whether anxiety was associated with an increase in willingness to be exposed to the risk of COVID-19 infection (WiRE) using an online survey administered to 3,110 French individuals aged between 18 and 35 years old during the lockdown period (April 2020). Overall, 56.5% of the sample declared a positive WiRE. Unemployment was associated with a higher WiRE (+8.2 percentage points (pp); 95% CI +0.9-15.4 pp). One standard deviation increases in income (+1160€) and psychological state anxiety raised the WiRE by +2.7 pp (95% CI: +1.1-4.4 pp) and +3.9 pp (95% CI: +1.6-6.2 pp), respectively. A one standard deviation increase in perceived hospitalisation risk was associated with a -4.1 pp (95% CI: -6.2-2.1 pp) decrease in the WiRE. Overall, our results suggest that both the prospect of economic losses and psychological anxiety can undermine young adults adherence to physical distancing recommendations. Public policies targeting young adults must consider both their economic situation and their mental health, and they must use uncertainty-reducing communication strategies.

Voluntary adoption of social welfare-enhancing behavior: Mask-wearing in Spain during the COVID-19 outbreak -

With the spread of COVID-19, more countries now recommend their citizens to wear facemasks in public. The uptake of facemasks, however, remains far from universal in countries where this practice lacks cultural roots. In this paper, we aim to identify the barriers to mask-wearing in Spain, a country with no mask-wearing culture. We conduct one of the first nationally representative surveys (n = 4,000) about this unprecedented public health emergency and identify the profile of citizens who are more resistant to face-masking: young, educated, unconcerned with being infected, and with an introverted personality. Our results further indicate a positive correlation between a social norm of mask-wearing and mask uptake and demonstrate that uptake of facemasks is especially high among the elderly living in localities where mask-wearing behavior is popular. These results are robust when controlling for respondents demographics, time spent at home, and occupation fixed effects. Our findings can be useful for policymakers to devise effective programs for improving public compliance.
